With 30 years of experience in the international art market, Hervé de La Verrie is a renowned independent specialist and advisor with a privileged knowledge of the art market.

BIOGRAPHY

In 2018, after more than 25 years of experience in France and abroad, Hervé de La Verrie set up in Paris his own company Hervé de La Verrie Art Conseil : expertise, private sale treaties and advisory.
Hervé de La Verrie is a highly respected independent advisor with a privileged knowledge of the market.

After graduating from the Ecole du Louvre, where he acquired a generalist training in Art, Hervé worked at the Galerie Vandermeersch in Paris (1992-1995). Hervé joined in 1995 Christie’s European Ceramics and Glass department in London, also spending time in the Asian department. Appointed in 1997 in Paris for Christie’s prior to the opening of the French market to foreign competitors, he created and headed the European Ceramics and Glass department in Paris covering the 15th to the 19th century period.

Hervé as Director of European Ceramics and Glass department has worked for more than 20 years for Christie’s, developing the European market and creating a network of collectors and institutions worldwide. He holds a strong track record at auction with a world record price at auction, never exceeded, for two 18th century Meissen Porcelain Herons from Augustus the Strong Japanese Palace’s collections in Dresden; in 2001 the Charles-Otto Zieseniss collection of Sèvres porcelain, which catalogue is still considered a reference catalogue, was the inaugural Christie’s sale in France.

Hervé also led important private sales to French institutions such as an 18th century Sèvres porcelain garniture of three vases with goat’s heads sold to the Musée national de Céramique de Sèvres in 2004 and a collection of 18th century Niderviller porcelain groups and figures to the Musée du Pays de Sarrebourg in 2013.

Appointed in 2011 Director of Christie’s representatives, he was in charge of developping Christie’s presence in France and actively increased and structured Christie’s network (Bordeaux, Marseille, Lyon, Lille, Strasbourg, Nantes); he also secured sponsorship and partnership operations to develop Christie’s and local representatives’ image.

Hervé de La Verrie is the author of numerous publications, articles and catalogue notes.
